What we do

At RealUrbanGreen, we turn urban green spaces into powerful tools for healthier, greener, and more climate-resilient communities across the Euro-MED region.

Here’s how we do it:

We co-design! We work hand in hand with citizens, local authorities, and stakeholders to co-design urban green spaces that reflect the real needs of the people and the environment. Participation is key—from the very beginning.

We test innovative ideas from tiny forests to climate-smart gardens, we test Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) that help cities and towns adapt to climate change, boost biodiversity, and improve quality of life.

We’re developing a practical model that brings together ecology, public health, social inclusion, and innovation. It’s meant to guide towns and cities in planning, managing, and improving their green areas.

We involve local communities in data collection and observation to better understand urban ecosystems and how to protect them. Everyone can become part of the solution.

We don’t stop at pilot sites. Our tools, guidelines, and experiences are made to be shared and replicated across the Mediterranean – and beyond.

RealUrbanGreen is not just a project, it’s a collaborative journey to make our urban spaces more inclusive, sustainable, and alive.

8 PILOT AREAS

RealUrbanGreen transforms urban green spaces into engines of health, resilience, and community. Across the Euro-MED region, we co-design green spaces with citizens, local authorities, and stakeholders, ensuring that every voice helps shape greener, more inclusive cities and villages.

We test Nature-Based Solutions—from tiny forests to climate-resilient gardens—to tackle climate change, restore biodiversity, and improve quality of life. By applying citizen science, we involve communities in understanding and caring for their local ecosystems.

At the heart of the project is a holistic model that brings together ecological, social, and health dimensions to guide the planning and management of Urban Green Spaces (UGS). This model, validated through 8 pilot sites in diverse contexts, will be replicable across the Mediterranean and beyond.

With 9 partners, 3 years of action (2025–2027), and a strong focus on participation, RealUrbanGreen is more than a project—it’s a shared journey toward a greener future.
