Citizen Science in Locorotondo

Citizen Science in Locotorondo (Italy)

Participatory monitoring of Urban Green Space and its benefits

On April 17, 2026, from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM, the town of Locorotondo will host a Citizen Science event as part of the RealUrbanGreen project.

This initiative invites citizens, associations, students, and experts to actively engage in the participatory monitoring of urban green spaces, contributing to the co-creation of a shared model for sustainable urban green management.

A pilot experience within Real Urban Green

This event is part of the Real Urban Green activities in Italy, where Locorotondo represents one of the project’s pilot areas, contributing to a broader network of eight pilot sites across Europe.

Through these pilot actions, the project fosters collaborative approaches to urban resilience, combining local knowledge and scientific methods.

  • Launch of the first participatory monitoring activities (part of the project framework)
  • Field experiments on soil, biodiversity, climate, and urban space quality
  • Contribution to the development of a participatory governance model for urban green areas

It represents a concrete step toward more inclusive, resilient, and sustainable communities, where citizens play an active role in shaping their local environment.
