RealUrbanGreen in Locorotondo (Italy): co-designing Urban Green Spaces

27/02/2026

On Friday, 20 February 2026, at the CRSFA “Basile Caramia” / ITS Academy AgriPuglia Aula Magna, the RealUrbanGreen project – “Testing a holistic model to co-design and co-implement healthy urban green spaces for climate-resilient cities and towns”, co-financed by the INTERREG Euro-MED Programme, held its presentation meeting.

The event marked a key step in the participatory co-design process: citizens, associations, and local stakeholders were engaged in defining the best solutions to enhance urban green spaces and strengthen their ecosystem services. The collected proposals will be integrated into a masterplan to be presented to the Municipal Administration for implementation.

Led by I Borghi più belli d’Italia and with the Municipality of Locorotondo as an associated partner, the project promotes the participatory development of urban and peri-urban green spaces to improve quality of life, foster social inclusion, protect biodiversity, and enhance climate resilience. RealUrbanGreen will run for three years and will be implemented in eight European pilot areas, including Locorotondo, with the goal of testing an innovative model for co-designing and co-managing healthy, climate-resilient green spaces.

The partnership brings together universities, foundations, associations, and service companies from seven European countries: Spain, Croatia, Cyprus, Greece, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Portugal, and Italy, in a transnational cooperation process running until December 2027, aimed at developing shared and replicable solutions.
